
Simon Hughes is Executive Principal of Blackpool and The Fylde College and has lived and worked across the Fylde Coast throughout his life. With more than 34 years’ experience in education, including significant time working in and for Fleetwood, Simon brings a deep understanding of the area, its people and its potential.
Simon is passionate about the power of education to transform lives. He has seen first-hand how high‑quality learning and skills development can improve life chances, increase earnings, and positively impact health, wellbeing and community prosperity. Throughout his career, he has been committed to ensuring education responds to local need, supports social mobility and helps individuals and communities to thrive.
At Blackpool and The Fylde College, Simon provides strategic leadership across a broad range of curriculum and industry areas, working closely with employers and partners to develop skills that support inclusive economic growth. The College’s long-standing roots in Fleetwood reflect a shared commitment to the town and its future.
As a member of the Fleetwood Pride in Place Board, Simon is proud to contribute his experience, local insight and belief in collaboration to support positive, sustainable change for Fleetwood and its communities.
Fleetwood has been awarded £20 million over the next decade as part of the UK Government’s 'Pride in Place' programme
and the Fleetwood community will decide how the money is spent to benefit our wonderful town.
