Meet the Board

I’ve been a GP at the Mount View Practice for over 34 years. My practice can trace it’s origins back to the very first GP in Fleetwood in 1892 when Dr J R Preston set up practice on Adelaide St.

As a local GP I am acutely aware of the health needs of our community, including low life expectancy, coupled with high rates of all long-term health conditions but especially mental health, not just in adults but also in children and young people. I am also aware of the significantly detrimental impact of the wider determinants of health such as low educational attainment, high unemployment rates and low levels of aspiration and hope. 

Having been the founder of Healthier Fleetwood in 2016 I have been actively engaged in empowering residents to take control of their own lives and their community. As a Trustee and more recently Chair of Fleetwood Trust, I am actively engaged in trying to address these issues, with particular regard to children’s mental health, local access to post 16 education and support for unemployed young people to re-engage with full time education or gain meaningful employment.
