Pride in Fleetwood Consultation

Community Hub ... improving support for everybody in the community was spoke of as a priority. Some proposed repurposing disused buildings into community social spaces. Others felt that supporting existing organisations/hubs should be the priority. Suggestions included:

• Repurposing existing buildings e.g, hub/homeless shelter/rehab facility.
• Multi-use , accessible hub with space for groups/classes
• Arts/music facilities and exhibition/performance space
• Multi-purpose youth hub with games/snooker/sports facilities
• Providing ongoing funding/facilities/equipment to establish organisations

Green spaces ... It was widely agreed that more green spaces and trees would improve wellbeing. accessibility and socialisation for people of all ages. Respondents also felt this would make Fleetwood more attractive to visitors. Suggestions included:

• Secure dog park
• Community orchard
• "Green corridors" between local areas
• More flowers and trees including on verges and in planters
• Community planting schemes
• Improved maintenance of Memorial Park
• Improved shelters and seating

Playgrounds ... the lack of playgrounds within Fleetwood negatively impacts the health and wellbeing of children and adults. Respondents agreed that we deserve well-equipped, accessible playgrounds which offer the opportunity for children, young people, parents/carers to socialise.

• Improving existing play facilities/equipment
• Improving free sports facilities e.g. football pitches or tennis courts
• Large play area on the Promenade (possibly ship-themed to reflect the Town's heritage)
• Smaller parks located across the Town aimed at varying ages
• Picnic benches / sheltered seating
• Accessible toilets / changing facilities 

Paddling pool and splash pad ... Many respondents hoped for the return of a community-owned, accessible paddling pool. They spoke of happy memories and felt younger generations had missed out on this opportunity.

The priority was reinstating this accessible activity to the community, with the current splash pad seen as a poor replacement. Some suggested and improved splash pad using St Anne's as an example, while others felt a paddling pool would offer something more unique and nostalgic. 

Send Support ... Improving support for people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) was widely called for. Respondents felt that the lack of activities and support increased isolation and harmed wellbeing. Many also believed that improving the local provision and facilities would encourage visitors to Fleetwood and boost the local economy. Suggestions included:

• SEND School
• SEND Services - holiday clubs/extra curricular activities with visitors/tourists able to pay for access
• Accessible play facilities (indoor and outdoor)
• Improved socialisation spaces/support groups for families, and in particularly from isolated, low-income and home-schooling families (indoor and outdoor)

Education ... Responses from all ages highlighted the barriers to education faced by people in Fleetwood and the negative impacts this has on the community. Suggestions included:

• New campus offering practical courses
• Community education hub with facilities
• Community skill sharing to upskill residents and allow people to explore career choices
• Community minibus for educational visits, allowing young people and adults to gain a practical understanding of different industries and settings
• Community work experience support eg. incentives for local companies/organisations
